Replication of Curiosity Driven Exploration

This week we'll discuss the problem of replication of curiosity-driven exploratory research. When researchers are browsing random-walk style through a historical archive, striking out into the woods off the beaten track, or trying out a new instrument or method for the first time, their work isn't always documented, recorded and pre-registered as it will be on their third replication attempt. Are such adventures some of the most important to share, or should we ignore them until a more comprehensive study is available?
