How do complex societies collapse?

Details
How do complex societies collapse? This is an important question for the present day that has puzzled historians and archaeologists since discovering the ruins of ancient civilizations, like the one on Easter Island, the Maya or the well-known case of the Roman Empire. In this presentation we explore this question from a mathematical modelling perspective to see how capturing feedbacks within these systems can help us understand their collapse.
Sabin Roman has a Masters degree in theoretical physics from the University of Edinburgh and has done a PhD on the topic of societal collapse at the University of Southampton. He has done machine learning research at the Romanian Institute for Science and Technology and is now collaborating with the Ruralis Institute in Norway.
This event is organised in collaboration with the Romanian Institue of Science and Technology (RIST www.rist.ro).
