Note - I have edited this for 2024 because I will probably be too busy until then or later UNLESS you contact me to VOLUNTEER TO HELP LEAD this event well before the next meeting we schedule. Please email me at VJacobi at sonic.net if you would like to help host events sooner or increase the odds of a timely enough update. I schedule these gatherings for 1 to 2 hours before the quarterly Climate Action Network meetings. Thanks.

At 5:30 or 6 pm we will either meet by zoom (or similar) or meet outside the PJC and cover the topics at ### below. At 6:30 a number of us will be having a brief Climate DRAWDOWN focused discussion and then at 7 pm we will go inside the PJC for the quarterly Sonoma County Climate Action Network (Sonoma CAN) meeting. You are very welcome to join us too. WE PROBABLY WILL NOT HAVE ANOTHER MEETING FOR 3 or 6 months after that, but if you want to continue working on this issue we can message each other and work via email or something until we resume. (I could use some help figuring how to edit the meeting calendar to only be every 3 or 6 months. Just the 5th Monday of the months 6, 9, 12, 3. Zoom phone and video conferencing connecting may be possible also.

Please bring your own water bottle or beverage if you want.

Hopefully things will be different by 12/2020. YES YAY! But some of the people in Washington still need to know that refugees are real people who simply seek a better life — and for centuries, refugees and immigrants have built our nation. Let’s join together in our community in opposition to the atmosphere coming from some factions. Share the stories of refugees you know and the many positive ways they contribute to our country. We want to show Congress, and the public what it means when we say #ThisIsARefugee.

At this meetup, we will ask participants to share a refugee story — whether it’s their personal story, a family member’s, friend’s or neighbor’s story. Here’s how:

  1. Write the stories of refugees in your community on paper as a group.
  2. Take a picture of your group and the text of your letter and post to social media using the hashtag #ThisIsARefugee.
  3. Send a copy of your letters with a personal note to your members of Congress urging them to oppose un-American atmospheres.
  4. Use Facebook, Twitter and Instagram to post a short video or a written description about a refugee that touched your life using the hashtag #ThisIsARefugee.
  5. Get together and brainstorm other actions to help refugees in your community.

Don’t sit there! FIGHT BACK and focus on “we are almost all refugees.”

We will also be doing coalition building and more!
