We’ll be kayaking the 13.5 mile canoe trail along the Blackwater River. This trail traverses one of the largest mangrove forests in the world. I often see manatees, dolphins, and alligators on this route along with herons, egrets, roseate spoonbills and other birds.
If you don’t have a kayak, rentals are available at the park. https://www.floridastateparks.org/learn/whenever-watersports-kayak-and-standup-paddleboard-rentals
There is a $5 fee to enter the park.
Please come prepared with more water than you think you’ll need, lunch, and plenty of snacks. This is a long paddle and could take up to eight hours, depending on stops. Make sure you’re protected from the sun with appropriate clothing and sunblock. Bug spray highly recommended.
This is a long paddle, but will be accomplished at a leisurely pace. Experienced paddlers only, but it’s okay if you’re slow.
