Whitehall Reservoir offers excellent hiking on the trail that winds all the way around the lake and is a good eight-mile trek to do the whole thing.
Depending on time and pace, we may go around a couple peninsulas adding a little more mileage. The trail is mainly a narrow walking trail. We will start the hike at the north end of the lake at the boat launch off route 135 which has ample parking. You can download a large (968k PDF) or small (300k GIF) topo map of the lake area. A specific trail map is not currently available, but the trail is marked by blue-triangle blazes, and typically stays within 50′ of the lake shore (the default boundary of the state park).
We will hike at a moderate, steady pace (2-2.5 mph) with few breaks. There may be a stream crossing or two.
Bring plenty of water, a snack, bug spray, waterproof shoes, and dress appropriately for the weather, while avoiding cotton. Ticks are still present so please plan accordingly.
Required:
WATER. Hydrate before this hike and bring at least 1 liter of water.
