Description:

Snake Den State Park is located just off of Route 6 in Johnston, RI. It is roughly 1.000 acres of undeveloped woodlands and open fields that are leased out for farming.

Please note that we are meeting at Dame Farm, not at the fire station on Route 6.

We will be hiking about 5 miles, and will be led by club member Peter Meusert. Peter knows the trails at Snake Den well. The trails are a mix of woodland trails and forest roads. There are plenty of rocks and roots in places. There is one climb going up to the overlook, otherwise mostly flat terrain. Expect a ~2 mph pace.

A couple of landmarks are the overlook from which the posted photo was taken and a stone quarry.

Requirements are a good pair of hiking boots or shoes, a backpack, drinking water (1.5 liters min), and snacks. You may also need bug spray and sunscreen.

Directions:

From Route 6 in Johnston, take Brown Ave (there is a stop light). Drive about 1 mile on Brown Ave and Dame Farm will be on your right.

From Route 5 in Johnston, take Brown Ave. Drive about 1.4 miles on Brown Ave and Dame Farm will be on your left.
