This trail was originally built by Australian naval members. Conditions can often be muddy and rocky with a few small hills to give a moderate rating. The trail begins near the campground and the stretches of trail closer to the camping area are often the most well-maintained. Highlights include well-marked paths, beautiful views, and interesting sights. Challenges are muddy areas, rocky spots, and possible overgrowth. Reviewers suggest waterproof footwear and bug repellent.

On Hike Do's:
- Do read the Waiver and Release of Liability Terms in the section below.
- Do post your picture on your Meetup profile to help your organizer get organized.
- Do show up dressed, ready and on-time, to begin our journey.
- Do stay with your group: Emphasize the importance of sticking together and not wandering off.
- Do use the buddy system: Ensure everyone has a partner to look out for each other.
- Do stay put if you get lost: Unless there is immediate danger, it's safer to stay put if you become separated from the group.
- Do check the weather forecast before you go: Northeast weather can change rapidly.
- Do dress in layers: This helps you adjust to changing temperatures.
- Do carry essential gear: This includes a map, compass or GPS, sufficient water and snacks, a first-aid kit, a headlamp, and layers for warmth.
- Do inform someone of your hiking plans: Let someone know where you are going and when you expect to return.
- Do be aware of hunting seasons: If hiking during hunting season, wear bright orange clothing for visibility (October to February in RI).
- Do research the trail beforehand: Understand the difficulty level, length, and terrain of the trail you plan to hike.
- Do look at what the folks at REI think you should do to prepare and enjoy a hike at: https://www.rei.com/learn/expert-advice/day-hiking-checklist.html?msockid=353d7859916a6b1105f86da890be6a9a
On Hike Don'ts:
- Don't hike alone, especially as a beginner: Hiking with a group provides support and safety in case of emergencies.
- Don't attempt trails beyond your fitness level: Start with easier trails and gradually increase the difficulty as you gain experience.
- Don't leave trash behind: Practice Leave No Trace principles to protect the environment.
- Don't disturb wildlife: Observe animals from a distance and never feed them.
- Don't underestimate the power of nature: Be aware of potential hazards like changing weather, difficult terrain, and wildlife encounters.
