Midweek Paddle on Olney Pond
Details
Let's paddle here at least a couple of times until we get a core group and then decide where else we should venture to.
Olney Pond is a 128-acre pond situated at the heart of Lincoln Woods State Park in Lincoln, Rhode Island. As one of Blackstone Valley’s premier freshwater gems, it is a wonderful spot for stand-up paddling. Because it has a strict no-high-speed-boat policy, it’s the perfect, calm location for group paddles.
Leaving from the boat ramp we will turn right and paddle counter-clockwise around the pond. We'll explore the irregular shoreline, hidden coves, and massive glacial boulders. We can decide how far around the pond we want to go depending on the vibe of the group, aiming to be on the water for approximately 45 to 75 minutes.
The water is clear and warm right now, and we will likely see ducks, turtles, and other local wildlife as we make our way around.
⏰ Timing: Please arrive at least 15–30 minutes before the start time so you have plenty of time to unload/pump up, and be in the water ready to paddle at our scheduled start.
Participants must:
- Have some prior SUP experience and have at least basic paddling proficiency.
- Be able to get back up on your board independently in open water if you fall off.
- Bring your own equipment: Board, paddle, leash, and the following safety gear: a whistle and a USCG-approved PFD (Personal Flotation Device). Per Rhode Island DEM law, it must be worn on your body while underway, not strapped to your board. (Note: I have a few extra whistles for the first few people who need one, but please bring your own if you have it!)
🛶 Kayakers Welcome! If you or a friend wants to kayak with us, come along. We welcome all paddlers!
