Hello everyone, welcome to our first event!
I would like to make a poll to see what your preferred meeting times and locations are. However, I don't know if this function is even available on Meet-Up. Hence, for now, I will keep the time as it is. However, if you want to message me privately or leave a public comment to let me know your time/location preferences, that would be great too.
Session agenda:
1.I will recapitulate the mandates of this meet-up which are already posted here on Meet-Up.
2.Introduce ourselves - What brings you to this meet-up? What do you think are the most important problems in our society to fix/address? What problems are you most interested in addressing? Do you have any project ideas in mind? What kinds of social issues (whatever topic it may be and whether it be municipal, provincial, federal or international) interest you the most? What languages do you speak and which languages would you like to practice, if any?
The self-introduction is very flexible (as is all aspects of our meet-up!), so you do not have to answer any questions with which you are uncomfortable. If there is any other relevant information you would like to share, please feel to do so.
2.We will have a discussion about what issues there are in our society, what we can do to make a difference, and what are some areas in which we need to do more
research. We will also decide whether we will all work together on one project or whether we will work separately. Please keep in mind that even though we are all interested in making a difference in our communities/in the world, we may have very different ideas of what the most pressing issues are and/or how they should be addressed. We probably have different personal interests as well (eg.doing art, talking to the public, using technology...). Therefore, our meet-up sessions could simply serve as opportunities for us to share ideas and support each other instrumentally and morally, without necessarily working on the same projects.
3.Hopefully, we will each leave with a specific action plan which could be starting an actual community project, simply reading something to gain certain knowledge or a hybrid of the two.
4.If you guys are down, we could hang out afterwards. We could get some food together or do something else simple and fun that you guys have in mind.
***If you guys know of any other similar organizations, please let me know! If so, we should get to know, get ideas from and/or collaborate with them.
Thank you!
