I love seeing the ice pile up on the shore in winter. And all the shapes it takes: floating ice doughnuts, swirls, tentacles, and feathery glazes. This is the best place I've found to see it. Of course the weather might not cooperate, and melt everything.

So this walk will start close to the beach, a short walk over the dune, and we'll be at the lake- hopefully marveling at weird piles of ice. Then there's a walk of a little less than a mile west toward the Michigan City light house. Conditions permitting we could go down the pier to the lighthouse and view the shore from the other side.
Then it is another almost-mile back. For a total of around 2 miles depending on how you wander.

The whole walk should take about an hour.

Bundle up. There is often a strong, damp wind on the beach making it feel 10 or more degrees colder. And ice may form on the sand, so while that isn't as treacherous as a icy parking lot-- good traction may be important.

Access
There's free parking on the side of the road on California Ave. There's also a small parking lot for Michigan City residents with a Washington Park sticker.

Feel free to text or call me at 217-717-7860 for last minute details.
Please cancel your RSVP if you can't make it, so we don't wait for you.

Hope to see you there,
