Rick's Pioneer Valley Fun Group

Note: If we have 8 or fewer players, we will play as partners on one table; however, if we get 10 or more players, we will play as partners at TWO TABLES, with teams of either 4, 6 or 8 players at each table. We try to get an even number of players.

You do not need to be an expert to play, since your partners will support you if you are still learning, but you should have played before and be at least familiar with the basic rules of the game. Winning strategy seems to come with greater experience. The play can typically get pretty competitive and somewhat boisterous, but you do NOT need to be a highly experienced player to participate. If you do not know how to play, you are welcome to sit in and watch us, ask questions, and learn.

For our games, we will play the partners version, with a winning score of 15. The game can also be played “cutthroat”, where single players compete against any number of opponents.

Abandoned Building Brewery in Easthampton is open on Thursday nights until 9:00 PM. The Vegan Pizza Land food truck out back is open on Thursdays from 5:00 to 9:00 PM. Another alternative, if you want to get food before playing, is Daily Operation, a bit further down the parking lot, with some great food, including several vegan options, that you can order online earlier in the day for pickup prior to playing. Abandoned Building has plenty of long tables available where we can accommodate up to 8 players per table, plenty of free parking, great beers, and seltzers for those who don't drink beer!

i just learned that the Pioneer Valley Over 55 group is having a dinner at the popular Wood-N-Tap at the same time as the Food Truck Friday event that i scheduled for Friday evening, May 1.

since our two groups have significant overlapping membership, and several people who usually come to the Food Truck events are already signed up for the Wood-N-Tap dinner, i am going to reschedule this event to the second 2026 Food Truck Friday on May 15.

i hope this works out for everyone's schedule, and that we'll see you all there.

we've had 3 pleasant visits to Food Truck Friday outside the Abandoned Building Brewery ... let's have another one. it is a fun, lively scene, with a selection of good eating from a number of food trucks, and drink from the Brewery. There is also live entertainment, and a generally festive atmosphere.

i checked with the brewery, and they will be setting up tables outside with radiant heaters, and there also are warm indoor spaces we can go to, either temporarily or permanently, if it's too cold.

let's meet at first at the entrance, where they give out the wrist bands just before 5, then when we have a few people there, let's go grab a table where we can sit together.

i will be wearing a faded blue hat with "GREECE" on it in white letters--or call me at 773-415-0428.

it got crowded later, but at previous events, when we arrived at the 5:00 opening time, it was easy to get seating for a group of large and indefinite size. as long as we get there when they opened the doors, it's a great environment to mingle, and allow people to drop in and out.

there are warm, dry indoor spaces we can go to, either temporarily or permanently, if there is cold or rain on Food Truck night--so the show will go on.
