Nós teremos o nosso primeiro meetup dia 11 de Junho (quarta-feira) na PUC Rio com a palestra de André Freitas (Insight Centre for Data Analytics / DERI, Irlanda & Amtera, Brasil) sobre o uso de tecnologias semânticas na gestão de dados. O evento é gratuito, aberto a comunidade mas temos um número limitado de lugares. Os interessados em participar devem enviar um email para rauldesenvolvimento@gmail.com confirmando a sua presença. Título: Coping with Data variety in the Big Data Era: A Semantic Computing Approach

Resumo: Big Data is based on the vision of providing users and applications with a more complete picture of the reality supported and mediated by data. This vision comes with the inherent price of data variety, i.e. data which is semantically heterogeneous, poorly structured, complex and with data quality issues. Despite the hype on technologies targeting data volume and velocity, solutions for coping with data variety remain fragmented and with limited adoption. In this talk we will focus on emerging data management approaches, supported by semantic technologies, to cope with data variety. We will provide a broad overview of semantic computing approaches and how they can be applied to data management challenges within organizations today. This talk will allow the audience to have a glimpse into the next-generation, Big Data-driven information systems.

Bio: André Freitas is a researcher and PhD candidate at the Insight Centre for Data Analytics / Digital Enterprise Research Institute (DERI) at the National University of Ireland, Galway and is a partner and co-founder at Amtera Semantic Technologies. André holds a BSc. in Computer Science from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ), Brazil (2005). His main research areas include Semantic Search, Semantic Computing, Next Generation Information Systems, Question Answering Systems and Natural Language Interfaces. Before joining DERI, André worked as a research assistant at Siemens Corporate Research, Princeton, USA. André worked as a software engineer, product designer and project manager in different industries including Oil & Gas Exploration, IT Security, Medical, Healthcare, Banking, Mining and Telecom. website: http://andrefreitas.org/
