What we’re about

I have always been fascinated by how ancient people lived their lives, the art they created and monuments they left for us to marvel at. I have read some pop history books like Sapiens, books on modern and ancient India, and I have listened to lectures on middle eastern history and listened to a variety of podcasts on the subject.

Later I came across a talk on the history of Lucayans and Tainos, and their encounter with Columbus, which was followed by thirty years of Tainos genocide and eventually their extinction. Tainos were extremely peaceful inhabitants of what we call now as Bahamas, they were the first indigenous population which Columbus came across on his way to India. In his diary Columbus mentions that Tainos were always blissful and would share food and gifts among each other and with Colonials. This talk made me realize that there is lot to learn about indigenous history.

With this effort I want to create a meetup group of like minded individuals who are interested in understanding indigenous history across the globe. We will begin with the understanding the Ancient American history of tribes living in North Carolina and shift our attention to major tribes across the continent.

The goal is to create interest among people about indigenous history of Americas and later branch to places around the globe.
