What we’re about
This is a singalong group mainly focused on gathering to sing folk/pop/rock songs together. We also get into other music genres as well (basically whatever folks want to sing). Take a look at past meetups for examples.
LOCATIONS
We generally meet in someone's home and fill up at about 12-15 members, but larger venues are sometimes used. Meetups tend to happen in Berkeley, Oakland, Hercules, Walnut Creek, and even in Marin and Pacifica. If you would like to host, please contact the Organizer(s).
OTHER INFO
Any food or beverages you want to bring for the snack table are appreciated, but not necessary. (Host provides the space only.) Sometimes a meetup is posted as a potluck.
MUSICIANS
We usually have a few people who bring their guitars. We're open to other instruments as well. You should be proficient enough to keep the rhythm and change chords quickly, and you should be okay with sitting out a few songs if there are more than two guitarists.
THE BOOK
If you don't already have it-- buy the Rise Up Singing songbook! Take a close look at the book's index of songs, genres, artists, and cultures at Amazon for details. The book contains 1200 songs! It's a rich volume with 35 different categories of songs. We also sometimes use the "sequel," the Rise Again songbook.
RSVPs/ ATTENDENCE
Please take your RSVP seriously - don't flake! Hosts are gracious to offer their homes, and they always have expenses of time, effort, and often money. Not showing up or canceling the day of a meetup is rude to them and to other members who are on a waiting list hoping to attend. In consideration of that, we have a "3 strike" rule: If you RSVP and don't show three times, your membership will be canceled.
Don't be shy or hesitant to try it out! The people are welcoming and fun to sing with. Hope to see you soon!
