Purpose: Community learning, reflection, connection — and giving back
We’ll be gathering weekly to explore Appalachia through a series of powerful, factual documentaries. These films dive into identity, culture, resilience, industry, and the real challenges and strengths of Appalachian communities — with a special focus on West Virginia.
This is a small, respectful, discussion-friendly environment.

### Films & Themes

  • Week 1: Identity & Perception
Hillbilly (2018) or American Hollow (1999)
A look at Appalachian identity, dignity, and how the region is portrayed vs. how it lives and breathes.
  • Week 2: Land, Industry & Impact
The Last Mountain or Burning the Future
The story of coal, community, environmental stakes, and the fight for health and home.
  • Week 3: Addiction, Community & Survival
    Oxyana (2013)
A raw and human portrait of the opioid crisis in a West Virginia town — not sensational, but honest and compassionate.

After each screening, there will be a brief reflection period for those who wish to participate. No pressure, no speeches — just a space to share a takeaway or a feeling if you choose.
