PyLadies + R-Ladies β Bringing the communities together

Details
We are excited to host an event that shows us how to combine both R and Python and build a bridge across two fantastic communities! π
Our fantastic speakers Rhian Davies and Deena Gergis will talk about their experiences when working bilingually with both R and Python.
To learn more about both languages, we will also have a quiz which also comes with great prizes (sponsored by Aiven) π₯³
β¨ A Tale of Two Languages β¨
In this talk, Rhian will share stories how Jumping Rivers develop in both R and Python - often in the same project.
Rhian will share how they write all of their Python training materials in R Markdown, and how they built the Diffify tool to analyze R packages in both Python and R.
Rhian will also talk a little about the challenges and opportunities they have working within a bilingual team at Jumping Rivers.
About Rhian Davies
Rhian loves using statistics to help people make data driven decisions. As a data scientist at Jumping Rivers, she has worked closely with varied domain experts including physicists, psychologists, game designers and engineers.
β¨ MLflow - a better way to track your models β¨
In a perfect world, you would get clean data that you will feed into a single machine learning model and voila, done. But fortunately, reality is much more interesting than a perfect world. A well-performing ML model will only be ready after a bunch of trials. You will have to try different algorithms along with a bunch of hyper parameters, different variants of your training data, and maybe even different variants of your target variable. This complex mix and match makes the challenge a fun one, but also messy to track. Solution? MLflow to the rescue.
About Deena Gergis
Deena is an award-winning AI expert whose ultimate purpose is to offer a better quality of life to people using AI. During the first half of her career in academia and research, Deena researched Machine Learning algorithms to diagnose and treat various types of cancer. And during the second half of her career in industry, Deena has successfully helped multiple German and multi-national companies to apply Machine Learning to develop cutting-edge products in a wide variety of verticals including sales, marketing, pricing, finance and industry 4.0. Deena is currently a Lead Data Scientist at Bayer. In her current role, she combines the best from academia and industry to develop AI products that will ultimately help people live a healthier life.
