My Journey Through STEM and One Health
Details
What qualify intelligence, capability, and initiative?
This session of R-Ladies-DC is dedicated to women in STEM.
We're honored to welcome Dr. Laura H. Kahn, co-founder of the One Health Initiative. Dr. Kahn will be speaking about her journey through STEM and the One Health Initiative.
Is the field of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM), a predominantly male field with historically low participation among women, slowly changing direction?
Analysis of the STEM workforce based on occupational data from the US Bureau of Labor Statistics shows the number of women increased dramatically over the years, from women only making up 8% of STEM workers in 1970 to currently reaching 28% in the USA.
Many questions arise:
- What does it mean to be a woman in STEM?
- Why are females underrepresented in STEM fields?
- Is it hard to be a woman in STEM?
- How to inspire a girl to get into STEM?
