Plotting spatial data in R: Put R-Ladies Freiburg on the map!
Details
Have you ever been in awe when you saw beautiful maps created on Tidy Tuesdays and wished that you could create such maps? If so, this workshop is for you. We will use different Tidy Tuesday datasets including spatial information and recreate maps that you may have seen on social media. These include scatter maps, bubble maps and choropleth maps. To ease the start into the topic of creating maps with R, we will use {ggplot2}, a package most of you will be familiar with.
You will have the chance to practice your skills in several exercises. One of these will be a map in which you can provide your geolocation and appear as a dot on a world map that’ll show how global R-Ladies Freiburg has become.
The workshop will be given by our guest speaker Beke Hansen. Beke is a sociolinguist working at the University of Kiel and a long-time fan and member of R-Ladies Freiburg.
Note: We will not be recording this workshop, so be sure to attend on the day of the event if you are interested! As always, you’ll also be able to find the materials in our Github repository:
