R Basic: Graphs (Part I)

Details

These online events will cover the very basics of R and making graphs, which will be ideal for newcomers into the language.

This is a “code walk-through”; this means we have a code we follow and learn from directly. All the code and data used for this exercise will be provided after the session ends. This also means there is no need for you to run the code or write it down in your Rstudio script as we go along.

As you will learn fast, a lot of the code you will use in R is already written somewhere in the internet. The task for the user is to understand what is happening and learn how to consult the reference guides or how to “google” for answers.

For this first session, users do not need any background information or knowledge. Users with little to some experience may find this first event slow.

Part I - Basics: install and call packages, load dataframes (datasets) and assignments
Making scatterplots: Base and ggplot2

Requirement for Part I:
No special requirements

Part II - Other types of graphs
Making things pretty: ggthemes, Rcolorbewer and patchwork

Requirements for part II:
Being able to create a scatterplot in R on your own
