Hello friends! We are excited to announce our first international speaker of the year: Beatriz Milz from R-Ladies São Paulo chapter in Brazil. She will be sharing the R-Ladies São Paulo stories and their journey to increase diversity in their community.

This presentation aims to share the diversity issues in the R-Ladies São Paulo community and the actions being taken to increase diversity. The idea is to present some important concepts, such as intersectionality, and discuss the importance of understanding the local context. Also, I drew some reflections that can be useful for thinking about what actions we can take in different R-Ladies chapters to seek to improve diversity.

Beatriz Milz has a PhD in Environmental Science. She is a researcher interested in topics such as: water resources management, transparency and open data, environmental data science, and gender and the environment.
She advocates for Open Data\, Open Science\, and Open Source Software\. Since 2018\, she has been part of the technical team of the journal \[Ambiente & Sociedade\]\(https://www\.scielo\.br/j/asoc/\)\.

Since 2018\, she has been an \[R\-Ladies co\-organizer of the São Paulo chapter in Brazil\]\(https://rladies\-sp\.org/\)\. 

She is a \[tidyverse instructor certified by RStudio\]\(https://education\.rstudio\.com/trainers/people/milz\+beatriz/\)\. 

She teaches R in short courses at \[Curso\-R\]\(https://curso\-r\.com/\)\, \[cebrap\.lab\]\(https://cebrap\.org\.br/cebrap\-lab/\)\, and the \[Summer program at the Institute of Mathematics and Statistics \(IME\) – University of São Paulo \(USP\)\]\(https://www\.ime\.usp\.br/verao/\)\.

She is also a \[GitHub Star\]\(https://stars\.github\.com/profiles/beatrizmilz/\)\, a recognition from GitHub for people who are experts and technical leaders who share their knowledge with the community\.
