Custom city maps in R
Details
Want to learn about geospatial analysis in R? Are your walls looking a little bare? Or maybe you’re searching for a unique, data-inspired gift for friends or family?
Come join R-Ladies Ottawa for a hands-on workshop where you’ll learn how to make minimalist custom city maps using open-source tools!
🧐 What you'll learn
In this workshop, we’ll cover:
- The fundamentals of geospatial analysis (e.g., points, lines, polygons, projections)
- How to access and work with OpenStreetMap data
- How to use R packages like osmdata and ggplot2 to create your own beautiful maps
- How to incorporate data from activity tracking apps such as Strava or Runkeeper to visualize your favourite running or cycling routes (time-permitting)
🧰 Before the workshop
To get the most out of this session, please:
- Install R and RStudio (or another IDE such as Positron) on your personal computer
- Clone the workshop repository (code will be shared a few days before the event)
