[ONLINE] #tidytuesday Work Group
Details
Join fellow R-Ladies in exploring a #tidytuesday data set! For those craving human connection and some practice flexing your data science skills, this is the event for you! We will hold our event via Zoom, where you can meet other R-ladies, improve your R skills, and build your data science portfolio. This event is for people at all levels of R (beginner through advanced).
This will be the second part of a multipart TidyTuesday event where we will be looking at a local (!) urban heat mapping dataset brought to us by collaborators at the Museum of Life and Science (https://www.lifeandscience.org/) and the State Climate Office of NC (https://climate.ncsu.edu/). These data were collected using PocketLab temperature sensors (https://www.thepocketlab.com/store/pocketlab-weather?hsLang=en) as folks walked around Durham and Raleigh this past summer (#walkingForScience). You can read hear more about this project in this WUNC feature here (https://www.wunc.org/race-demographics/2021-08-11/urban-heat-mapping-project-durham-race-policies-climate-google).
Agenda (all times in ET):
6:30 - 6:45 pm Meet & Greet
6:45 - 7:45 pm #tidytuesday
7:45 - 8:00 pm Discussion
What is #tidytuesday?
#TidyTuesday is a weekly social data project created by the R4DS online learning community that is focused on using tidyverse packages. A new data set and accompanying article featuring an interesting plot is released on Github every Monday. The goal is to generate a copy of the original plot or create your own original approach!
For more information on #tidytuesday, check out this blog post (https://bit.ly/2HqEsdt) and the main repository page (https://github.com/rfordatascience/tidytuesday).
Who is this for?
New and experienced R users alike! Let's learn together! All are welcome, including R-Ladies RTP members and R-Ladies from around the world.
What should I bring?
You'll need a computer with videoconferencing capabilities and R. Serve yourself a beverage and a snack to fuel your evening!
Where will it take place?
Please join us online via Zoom. A link to join will be provided when you RSVP.
All events are intended for women as leaders, mentors, members, and attendees. We are emphatically queer and trans friendly. Men are welcomed to attend as guests and must be accompanied by the R-Lady who invited them. This group was created so those who identify as women have a comfortable place to learn. If you would like to attend and feel excluded, please introduce yourself to an organizer.
