Details

By the end of the first of this two part series (second part is on June 27, 2022), participants will be able to describe key aspects of spatial data that are important for spatial data analysis (i.e., data types, formats, and coordinate reference systems) and describe what the sf package can and cannot do, including some initial practice with using it.

All events are intended for women as leaders, mentors, members, and attendees. We are emphatically queer and trans friendly. Men are welcomed to attend as guests and must be accompanied by the R-Lady who invited them (i.e., attend through the "guest" function on their host's RSVP, not as a separate RSVP). This group was created so those who identify as women have a comfortable place to learn. If you would like to attend and feel excluded, please contact the event organizer.

Agenda:
• 6:30pm - 6:45pm - Introductions
• 6:45pm - 7:50pm - Hands-on Workshop
• 7:50pm - 8:00pm - Wrap up

Who is this for?
This meetup is for beginners who have no experience programming in R (or another coding language). We will use live coding demonstrations and participates will actively engage with the instructor throughout the workshop.

We will be using web browser-based interactive coding notebooks for this workshop so no installation of R or RStudio is required. These notebooks will ensure that everyone's code runs properly as there can be many tricky software dependency issues that pop up while doing spatial analysis work. Links to the coding notebooks will be provided at the start of the workshop. Folks are welcome to work without their web-browers, if they feel comfortable to do this independently.

Please contact Sheila at sheila@rladies.org at least 48 hours (or earlier) before the event if you have any questions.
