Blogdown Tutorial: Build Your Own Website
Hosted by R-Ladies San Diego
Details
In this meeting we will do a hands on tutorial with blogdown (https://bookdown.org/yihui/blogdown/). We will build mini-personal websites to showcase some of our work.
We'll be roughly following this excellent tutorial by Alison Presmanes Hill (https://alison.rbind.io/post/up-and-running-with-blogdown/).
Before coming please do the following:
- Install R (https://www.r-project.org/).
- Install RStudio (https://www.rstudio.com/).
- Install `blogdown` by running `install.packages("blogdown")`
- Install Hugo by running `blogdown::install_hugo()`. Note, if you are a MacOS user it will be beneficial to have Homebrew (https://brew.sh/) installed before installing Hugo.
Depending on time we may try and push up the the website to the web. If you would like to participate in this portion of the tutorial, please:
- Make a GitHub account (https://github.com/).
- Make a Netlify account, logging in with your GitHub account (https://www.netlify.com/).
Notes on attending tonight:
- There is street parking, or you can self park in the underground lot at the Aventine at 8910 University Center Lane. It is recommended to park at 2S (in any spot that isn't "Reserved"). From there walk on the sidewalk out of the front of the structure to the front door of the Aventine building. When you enter the front door, tell the security guard or WeWork Team member that you're here for the event at WeWork on the 11th floor. Parking in the self lot is $2/half hour with a $25 daily max.
- Please bring a photo ID to show at the desk and check in at the community bar on the 11th floor.
