Exploring Kaggle competitions: "Titanic: Machine Learning from Disaster"

Details
Let's have a look at what Kaggle competitions are all about.
To learn more about Kaggle, check out their website: http://www.kaggle.com/
We'll start with an easy example: "Titanic: Machine Learning from Disaster".
This is an interesting dataset with a manageable size and easy to understand variables.
We'll do a quick exploratory analysis to better understand the data, some feature engineering to make things more interesting, and then we'll try to figure out who survived using a random forest model.
You can find more information and a link to download the dataset here: https://www.kaggle.com/c/titanic/data (go to the Data tab and click the button "Download All".
If you haven't already, please also do the following before the meeting:
- Install R (https://www.r-project.org/).
- Install RStudio (https://www.rstudio.com/).
Notes on attending the Meetup at WeWork:
- There is street parking, or you can self park in the underground lot at the Aventine at 8910 University Center Lane. Parking in the self lot is $2/half hour with a $25 daily max.
- Please bring a photo ID to check in.
I'm looking forward to seeing everyone.
