Spatial Workflows in R

Details

Join us on Thursday, July 11 from 5:30-7pm PDT to learn the ins and outs of spatial workflows!

Dealing with spatial data through coding can be challenging, but is a useful skill across many different fields of expertise. In this session, we will cover the basics of working with spatial data in R, giving you the tools you need to handle spatial data confidently and accurately. We will demonstrate many parts of the spatial data workflow, from data import and manipulation, to basic and advanced data visualization using a suite of different R packages. Finally, we will take it a step further and give an example of how we can use spatial data for decision-making by providing a basic workflow for spatial prioritization in a conservation context.

This event will be virtual! A zoom link will be provided directly to folks who RSVP.

If you'd like to code along during the workshop, there are several options for accessing the workshop material:

  1. If you're a git and GitHub user, you can fork and clone the GitHub repository (recommended). For guidelines on how to do so, you can find some instructions here - noting that you will be using Tin and Sandra's repository, instead of the repository in the example!
  2. If you're not a GitHub user, you can download the necessary materials via Google Drive.

There are several R packages that will be installed and loaded as we work through the workshop material. Some may take some time to install, so if you'd like to install packages ahead of time, you can follow the code in load_packages.R.
