Web Scraping in R

R-Ladies Tunis and ESSAI Junior Entreprise are partnering up and are organizing a training session about Web Scraping in R.

We will be hosting Riva Quiroga and Dr. Mohamed El Fodil Ihaddaden.

Riva Quiroga will show us an example of creating a function to scrape many pages of a website, and another about scraping tables using the R package rvest. She will also showcase how to use RegEx to clean the data. There will be a live coding under the programming language R.

Dr. Mohamed El Fodil Ihaddaden will introduce his R package "ralger" to us. This package aims to make it easier to scrape a website https://github.com/feddelegrand7/ralger

Riva Quiroga is a linguist currently pursuing a PhD in that area, and an editor at Programming Historian, a Digital Humanities open access journal that publishes novice-friendly, peer-reviewed tutorials that help humanists learn a wide range of digital tools, techniques, and workflows to facilitate research and teaching.

▶️ About Dr. Mohamed El Fodil Ihaddaden https://ihaddadenfodil.com/
Dr. Mohamed has a PhD in Economics and Msc in Statistics and Applied Economics. He's an R developer, and RStudio Certified Instructor. Throughout his PhD thesis, he has been working mainly on the application of a non-parametric technique called Data Envelopment Analysis in order to improve Algerian public banks’ performance. Furthermore, he is also interested in implementing machine learning algorithms to solve complex real world issues.
