Using Tidyverse for Genomics

We are delighted to get back to the R4Bioinfo series that we've launched in September 2020. We will be organizing a new workshop about Using Tidyverse for Genomics.

▶️ About Dr. Janani Ravi:
Dr. Janani Ravi is currently an Assistant Professor at the Dept. of Pathobiology and Diagnostic Investigation, Michigan State University. She completed her PhD in Computational Biology at Virginia Tech and her postdoctoral research at the Public Health Research Institute, Rutgers Biomedical and Health Sciences. Her research group at MSU works on developing computational approaches to study the molecular basis of pathogenesis and intervention of infectious diseases, using protein sequence-structure-function relationships, comparative genomics, and drug repurposing.

Dr. Janani is also actively engaged in training, education, and outreach, focusing on increasing the participation of underrepresented minorities in data science and R programming. She is the founder of R-Ladies East Lansing and co-founder of Women+ Data Science, platforms that together engage more than 1,000 members.

▶️ About the workshop:
This workshop will present how to analyze & visualize processed genomics data.

This workshop will be divided in 5 parts:
Part 1: Getting started w/ readr
Part 2: Reshaping data w/ tidyr
Part 3: Data wrangling w/ dplyr
Part 4: Visualizing tidy data w/ ggplot
Part 5: Export and Wrap-up w/ rmarkdown

By the end of this workshop, you will be able to load your genomic dataset, perform basic data tidying & wrangling, data visualization, and save/export your results using tidyverse! Hopefully, you will also have a newfound appreciation for reproducible research and R!
