String manipulation is a key tool in data wrangling and yet one that is not often discussed or mentioned. Regular expressions or regex allow us to create patterns that help us find or modify strings/text. Don't you think that such a tool is very valuable?!! Do you want to learn how to use regex effectively in R?

In this meet-up Barbara Vreede and Tessa Pronk will be introducing us to the use of regular expressions in R and organizing some nice activities where we can practice!

The program will look like this:

19:30 - Welcome and introduction to regex
20:00 - Breakout rooms 1: crossword
20:10 - Discussion of crossword, solution and lessons
20:20 - Breakout rooms 2: webscrapping
20:40 - results and lessons
20:50 - Closing remarks

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Basic knowledge in R is assumed.
  • Preferentially having R and RStudio installed and ready to use so you can follow along with the activities.
