The Rocky Mountain AI Interest Group (RMAIIG) will host a Zoom meeting on Tuesday, August 8th at 6 PM MDT called “Generative AI in Education."

We will explore perspectives and opinions on the proper role of AI tools like ChatGPT, Bard and Midjourney in education and we may also hear about education-specific AI tools like Gradescope, Fetchy, Ivy Chatbot, Cognii, Plaito and more. The entire education system is in the midst of a huge "AI reckoning" with vastly different approaches being tried, ranging from outright district-wide bans on AI use to some teachers requiring students to use AI tools and weaving AI into the syllabus.

Please join us via Zoom. Link will be provided.

CU Boulder proudly hosts one of five National Science Foundation's $20 million AI Institutes to accelerate research, expand America's workforce, and transform society in the decades to come.

Our first speaker, Dr. Peter Foltz, is Executive Director of the NSF's AI Institute for Student-AI Teaming (iSAT) at CU Boulder which is an interdisciplinary research community dedicated to transforming classrooms into more effective, engaging and equitable learning environments.

Dr. Foltz is Research Professor at the University of Colorado’s Institute of Cognitive Science. His work covers machine learning and natural language processing for educational and clinical assessments, large-scale data analytics, cognitive skills in reading and writing, team collaboration, and 21st Century skills learning,

Our second speaker, Dr. Teresa Nugent, is an Associate Teaching Professor of English at the University of Colorado Boulder, where she teaches in-person and online classes, including writing composition, literary analysis, Shakespeare, and science fiction.

Dr. Nugent is currently working with colleagues to create a "Writing in the Age of AI" course to help students develop the practical and analytical language skills they’ll need for success as technology transforms how we communicate and write.

Our third speaker is Dave Taylor, an Adjunct Professor & DU Leader in Teaching Excellence. Dave is a lifelong entrepreneur, has launched startups, published tech books, and reviews tech on AskDaveTaylor.com and YouTube. He teaches at the University of Denver. He's an award-winning speaker, tech advisor, and writes on lifestyle topics on PlanetDave.com.

I want to thank the following for generously arranging and providing an awesome meeting space for RMAIIG: Grace Wilson, John Bacus, Mark D. Gross, the University of Colorado and the Roser ATLAS Center at CU Boulder.
