Data.gov and successful use cases

Our focus for this June 11 meeting will be about open data at the federal level, and about the web site of data.gov (Data.gov is a flagship open government initiative for the Obama Administration, managed by GSA.), while we will also continue our discuss about success user cases. In www.data.gov, you can find over 100,000 data sets ready for you to use.

Our speaker is Jeanne Holm. Jeanne is the Chief Knowledge Architect at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory, driving innovation through social media, virtual worlds, gaming, ontologies, and collaborative systems, including the award-winning NASA public portal (www.nasa.gov (http://www.nasa.gov/)). As the Evangelist for Data.Gov, Jeanne Holm leads collaboration and builds communities with the public, educators, developers, and international and state governments in using open government data. She is a Fellow of the United Nations International Academy of Astronautics and Distinguished Instructor at UCLA, Chair of the W3C eGovernment Community, leads several high-tech startups, and has more than 120 publications on information systems, knowledge management, and innovation.

Jeanne will talk about open data at the federal level as well at local levels, how the Data.gov team works with developers, cities, businesses, and some successful use cases. Jeanne has spoken on open data to many open data conferences, including the 2013 UC Berkeley open data conference, and most recent in an open data conference in Australia.

As before, Starbucks coffee and cookies will be provided. The meeting will start at 7pm sharp.
