Awesome ride heading up to Mt. Baldy via Glendora Mountain Rd starting from Glendora on old Route 66 and then going up to over look the San Gabriel Mountains. The view of the San Gabriel Reservoir, above, is alone worth the price of admission.
It's a little over 20 miles to the top with an average grade of 3.7 % according to mapmyride but with some consistent sections at 5 & 6% so by no means very steep but just constant ups and downs all the way up. But after about mile 11 it levels out somewhat to give you a breather. With awesome views all the way. Especially on the second half of the way up when it tuns more greener and there is more Trees. Total miles is right at 40 but only the first 22 miles or so are going uphill but also the most scenic part, so it's a very doable ride. Just need to pace yourself and keep hydrating and snacking to keep fueled up.
Just 2 scheduled stops to regroup and snack. One about half way up, the exact spot is 6 tenths of a mile past the Maintenance Shed at "mile 11.6" at the intersection of Glendora Mountain Rd and Glendora Ridge Rd, keep right to continue on Glendora Ridge Rd after we regroup. The other spot to regroup will be at the water fountain (behind the tree just in front of the Post Office/Fire Station Bldg) which is about a block on your left just after the left turn onto "Mt Baldy Road at mile 23.5". So when we get to that intersection turn left and go to the Post Office to refill your water bottles and regroup. There is a Soda Machine outside of the Lodge about another block or so up the road on the right. Restrooms in the Lodge if needed.
It will be a little cooler on top with 4000 feet of elevation, maybe 15 to 20 degrees cooler, so bring a jacket. Then it's a fast and furious downhill after that so you may want to put your windbreaker jacket on depending on the temps.
Everyone rides at a different pace so let's try to stay together and help one another when needed. It's a simple route so it's hard to get lost but as you know stuff happens.
Note: There is "no cell phone service" all the way up to Mt Baldy so we need to partner up with someone of a similar pace in case of a breakdown or something. We could use a volunteer sweeper also. Thank you.
However the GPS still works. Naturally it comes from the satellites.
Looking forward to this awesome ride so come and join us on this beautiful ride to Mt Baldy. Woohoo!!!
