The Adam Smith Robotics Society explores classical economics to understand how robotics might create a better and more productive future for humanity.

In this book club, we will read Wealth of Nations over the course of a few of months.

Our primary focus will be understanding Smith on his own terms. Our secondary focus will be exploring how Smith’s ideas inform our thinking about automation and robotics.

This book club is a good fit for anyone who:
• wants to read Wealth of Nations
• is excited about technology and would enjoy discussions about robotics and automation

Note: If you haven’t yet attended our book club, do not feel it is too late to join. Reading the previous chapters of the book is not necessary to understand or participate in the discussion. Please join us!

We will meet twice a month.

For this session, we will focus discussion on these chapters in Book 1:

Chapter 3: That the Division of Labour is limited by the Extent of the Market (~5 pages)

Chapter 4: Of the Origin and Use of Money (~8 pages)

Chapter 5: Of the real and nominal Price of Commodities, or of their Price in Labour, and their Price in Money (*optional reading, ~18 pages)

Any full unabridged version of Wealth of Nations should do. Our discussion leader will use the following text: Wealth of Nations. You can also use Wealth of Nations Project Gutenberg for free online.
