Wealth of Nations Book Club (Robotics Society)
Details
The Adam Smith Robotics Society explores classical economics to understand how robotics might create a better and more productive future for humanity.
In this book club, we will read Wealth of Nations over the course of a few of months.
Our primary focus will be understanding Smith on his own terms. Our secondary focus will be exploring how Smith’s ideas inform our thinking about automation and robotics.
This book club is a good fit for anyone who:
• wants to read Wealth of Nations
• is excited about technology and would enjoy discussions about robotics and automation
We will meet twice a month.
For this session, we will focus on these parts of Chapter 11: Of the Rent of Land:
Part I - "Of the Produce of Land which always affords rent" (p. 160-178)
Part II - "Of the Produce of Land which sometimes does, and sometimes does not, afford rent" (p. 178-193)
End of Part III - "Conclusion of the Digression concerning the Variations in the Value of Silver" till the end of Book 1 (p. 255-267)
Optional Reading:
Part III - the rest of the section on the digression of silver (p. 193-255)
