Mobile Robots #05 - Hebocon & Inverse Kinematics

Details
It's time for our next meetup, and we have yet another set of awesome speakers - this time, we'll learn about battle-robots ⚔️, and inverse kinematics 🦾🦿
We'll once again be hosted by our friends from isento (see event details for the exact location if you're new).
1️⃣ Topic #1 - Hebocon - Low-Tech Battle Bots
David Koenig and Tim Buchner will introduce us to one of their favorite pastimes: organizing Hebocon workshops and battles!
If you’ve seen BattleBots or Robot Wars, you’ll recognize the concept—except these robots are hilariously low-tech. Built from recycled materials and everyday items, these quirky creations embrace imperfection and creativity.
Originating in Japan, Hebocon has become a global phenomenon. David and his team have been showcasing it at maker festivals and trade shows, helping participants build their own bots—no technical expertise required.
Get ready for a lighthearted, creative, and fun-filled session!
(Pro tip: check out some Hebocon videos online to see what it’s all about.)
2️⃣ Topic #2 - Inverse Kinematics: Mastering Robotics Motion
Mazen Mohsen - the Chief Robotics Scientist behind the pib.rocks project, will dive deep into the fascinating world of inverse kinematics.
He’ll share how his team has harnessed this mathematical technique to optimize the movement and positioning of the pib’s robotic arms, making them more efficient than ever.
Expect a session packed with code, calculations, and advanced robotics concepts—perfect for anyone who loves geeking out over the good stuff! 🤖
⏱️ Agenda:
18:00 Doors open
18:30 Hebocon
19:30 Tech Deep-Dive: Inverse Kinematics
20:30 Pizza and Drinks
💡 Bring Your Ideas And Questions: Got a project or concept you're passionate about? We'd love to see it! Consider this an open invitation to share your work with like-minded enthusiasts.
😊 Have a good time: There'll be plenty of time to connect with others in the group!
