GreatOut Dogs Reactive Dog Event - Sherwood Fields Park

Details
Get out and about while enjoying the Sherwood Fields Park! This trail allows plenty of space for you and your dog to gain exposure to other dogs while working on leash skills. This is a reactive dog specific event, and we welcome any handler with a dog that lunges, barks, or gets otherwise over stimulated during walks to join us, so long as the handler is able to maintain full control of their dog throughout the session.
This is a practice event, not an official rehabilitation training session. Trainer Alexandrea Underwood will be present to provide support and ensure that necessary safety precautions are taken, and will be available to answer questions and provide recommendations. If you are interested in more specific training opportunities, please reach out to Alex via direct message or email at alexandreaunderwood@gmail.com.
This hike will be shorter than our usual outings, in order to minimize stress as these companions learn to manage anxiety in the presence of other dogs. The area is intentionally open in order to provide ample opportunity to create the space that your dog may need. You are welcome to exit at any point, or simply work with your dog at a distance from the group if you find your dog is not yet ready for this level of exposure.
Leashes should be no longer than 6 feet (please no retractable leads). Perfect obedience is not required, but you are expected to have full physical control of your dog at all times. I strongly recommend having medium to high value treats on hand to maintain your dog's attention.
To ensure the safety of all human and dog friends, please respect other owners space and DO NOT allow your dogs to meet, even if both dogs are friendly. This is extremely important. Dogs must be on leash at all times, and, as with anywhere, be sure to bring bags to pick up after your partner if the nature calls.
Additional human guests are welcome, but please keep the number of dogs to 1-2 per registrant. Two dogs for a single handler is fine only if both dogs have strong leash skills.
This hike may include uneven or muddy areas. Please dress appropriately and wear shoes for rugged terrain.
This event is ago rain or shine, though will be rescheduled in the event of heavy downpour or thunder storms.
By joining this meetup, you agree to accept all risks to you and your dog, as well as those your dog may pose to others.*
I do charge a $5 fee for this meetup in order to make this an official pet training event for insurance purposes. I prefer not to charge group contributions, but any donations towards the meetup subscription which make this group possible are very appreciated!
