Announcing a new event for The VA/MD/DC Rock Climber's Meetup Group!

What: Top Roping Anchor Class at Great Falls

When: Saturday, November 3, 10:00 AM

Where: Click the link below to find out!

Event Description: There will be a Top Roping Anchor class being held at Great Falls. It will start at 10am and run until 3pm. Sticking around after 3pm and doing more climbing is highly likely. We will be meeting at climbers sign in board at the front of the parking lot to the imediate right of the payment booth.

Topics Covered

1) Equipment needed for a Top-Roping Anchor
2) Proper inspection of equipment
3) Selecting Appropriate Anchor Points
4) Basic knots used in tieing Anchor Points
5) Weight balancing an anchor system
6) Basic Saftey Techniques used in Top Roping
7) Discussion of Top Versus Bottom Belays
8) Belay instruction if desired.
9) Possible Rappel instruction.

The schedule will be to set up two anchors, climb for a bit, take down both anchors, then setup both anchors at a different location. Remember the focus is on setup, not climbing.

Each person is REQUIRED !!!!! to have a proper fitting HARNESS. SHOES and a HELMET are highly recommended. The instructor is not responsible for someone smacking their head when climbing.

After discussing rock climbing classes with my two favorite lawyers, I have decided to make this class free. My main goal is to inform people on how to set up anchors so that I'm not the only one stuck setting up every time we run a group meetup. Climbing is a volunteer activity and can be dangerous. Everyone climbs at their own risk. Since I'm not charging for lessons, there is no liability. I will still teach everything I know and still provide text references to all my techniques.

The equipment being used is still all the instructors. It is all bought in the last two months. Individuals use it at own risk.
IF ANYONE IS INTERESTED, they can donate money to the climbers meetup gear fund. This fund will go toward replacing gear that gets too worn to use. Up to this point I have been spending my own money to provide gear to the entire group. I dont mind doing this, but if anyone would like I will collect donations for the equipment fund. With donations to the gear fund, this takes out any liability or lawsuits. Please don't be discouraged by this, Its just part of running any kind of teaching session.

A minimum of six people must be signed up for the class to be run.

Please feel free to contact Instructor for any further questions.
