Details on sportrock cancellations

From: Jim M

We have had some emails asking why we have canceled our sportrock meetups.  I wanted give everyone a bit of detail, without implying any blame or fault.

After running a few outdoor meetups and being asked a bunch of safety questions from new group members about techniques and equipment taught in gyms, I created a posting on the meetup to address some concerns of our members.  This posting was not meant to alienate, or accuse an particular gym of wrong doing.  My intent was to give climbers more knowledge and references, to make some of their own determinations.  Adam the assistant organizer read through, edited, and approved the post.

Sportrock staff took the post as an attack, and an insult.  I did not realize this for two weeks due to not being able to attend the gym due to new commitments.  When we arrived for a meetup event on Monday, the gym staff told me I had to leave due to what we posted. Even though Adam and I collaborated, they stated that my name was listed as the person who posted the message, so I was being held responsible.

Adam and I are working out this miss-understanding with sportrock, but both agree that the meetup won't be scheduled if it's organizers aren't allowed to participate.   We had no intent on upsetting or insulting sportrock, the post has been removed, and will get revised to clear up any miss understandings, and hopefully we will be back climbing there soon.

Feel free to email with any questions.

Thanks

Jim
