Climb stuff at Overhaul (Exit 38)

Details

The overall plan: To climb all over Overhaul, a nice crag with an easy approach and lots of shade.

Top rope or lead. Beginners, intermediate, advanced, all are welcome whether you've been outdoors before or not.

Getting there: We'll meet at the Dirty Harry's Balcony trailhead

You need a Discover Pass to park here, but if you park near the overpass, you don't need one there.

We'll meet in the parking lot and then head up.

Follow the road into the woods and after crossing the bridge, immediately hit the trail heading right and follow it. In about 10 minutes you'll reach the junction that leads down to Gritscone (the big mossy chunk of fun rock amidst the trees), there's a trail sign, and you'll want to head left and up to Overhaul (about a 7 minute hike). At the left turn that leads to the crag, you'll see a sign post for it.

The Climbing

Motherland: 2x5.7, 4x5.8, 2x5.10a, 2x10b, 10d, 2x11a, 12a, 2x12b

Slabbage Patch: 5.7, 5.8, 3x5.9's

McClellan Vista: 5.10b, 5.7

Communications

I'll email all the rsvp-ers nearer the date and we can trade numbers to ensure late arrivals or lostee's (it happens) can locate us or catch up or get directions (if I don't reply immediately give it a little while, I might be climbing, belaying someone, or out of breath from hiking).

In the lot, I'm the one in cammo trousers and a cowboy hat. At the crags look for the 'Union Jack' painted climbing helmet or ask any groups if they are with the MeetUp.

Stuff to Bring

Essentials: Harness, shoes, water, sunblock, lunch. Helmets are recommended.

Would be handy if you have them: Rope, quickdrawers, ATC/grigri, personal anchor, chalk, anchors, slings, and such.

Overhaul is a dog friendly location.
