Chanderi Fort Night Trek

Although worth mentioning as the jewel in the crown of forts in the Matheran region, there is no significant history attached to this fort. Near the caves on the fort are visible some remnants of fortification. Possibly this fort was a military base. In May 1656, Shivaji Maharaj conquered all territory up to Kalyan-Bhiwandi-Rairi. This was when this fort came under the rule of the Marathas.
One can trek to the Chanderi caves either from Chinchavli near Vangani or from Tamsai near Panvel. Trek from the caves to the top is tough which involves climbing steep scree and rock patches. Potable water cistern lies midway on the route to the top.
From the top one can see magnificent views of Prabalgad, Kalavantin, Irshalgad, Karnala, Nakhind, Vikatgad, Matheran, Mhaismal, Haji Malang, Tavli & Navra Navri.

Sat, 11th May

1515 hrs: Catch Deccan express from Pune to Karjat
1730 hrs: Catch local to Vangani station
1800 hrs: Mumbai folks can directly meet at Vangani station
1815 hrs: Travel to the base village in autos
1845 hrs: Start trek
2200 hrs: Reach Chanderi cave, dinner

Sun, 12th May
0500 hrs: Climb to the top(optional)
0730 hrs: Start descent
1100 hrs: Lunch at base village
1145 hrs: Departure -> Vangani -> Kalyan -> Pune

Fees: Rs 700 Includes travel from Vangani to Vangani in autos, 1 Lunch, trek expertise till the cave
Excludes dinner, breakfast, mineral water, sleeping bag/mat, anything not mentioned

Additional Fee to reach the top, including safety equipment and expertise: Rs 250

Things to Carry

• Dinner for Saturday night in tiffins
• Snacks for Sunday morning
• At least 4 liter water
• Juice, fruits, electral
• Sleeping bag/mat (available on rent)
• Torch
• Preferably full sleeve clothing and good shoes.
• Cap, sunscreen, etc.
• Harness/helmet, distributed by us for people climbing to the top.
• Personal medicine/first aid

• Trek fee is non-refundable
• One has to follow the guidelines by the trek lead at all times, failing which may result in exclusion from the event.
• Smoking/Drinking prohibited

Note: It is an adventure activity, we do take all the precautions for safety and timings but, things may go off-schedule a bit due to weather, injuries or other emergency situations. Please enjoy the trek and be a team. Trek leads decision would be final.
