CANCELLED:Shore Walk, Under & over the GW Bridge & Picnic

Details
Come enjoy our wonderful Hudson River and a few different "perspectives" of the Majestic George Washington Bridge to be followed by another one of our gourmet picnics! This will be about a 3 hour Slow/MODERATE PACED hike including breaks. We will start this journey on the level, paved and woods white shore trail, taking in expansive views of the Hudson River and NYC beneath the George Washington Bridge!
Those looking for a level, easy only, shorter shore walk can backtrack from the end of this trail and pick up the white shore trail at the north end of the Ross Dock and take that to the Englewood boat basin and back for a round trip of about 3 miles and then get the picnic started early!
Those looking for a more challenging walk will continue up a short, steep stone stairway at the end of the Ross dock trail. This will take us up to Hudson Terrace for a short walk on a moderate incline, passing the Ft. Lee HIstoric park to the GW Bridge. We will walk the bridge up to the 2nd arch for more fantastic views and then retrace our steps and return to the Ross Dock for an early summer picnic!
SCROLL TO THE BOTTOM AND POST WHAT YOU PLAN TO BRING IN THE COMMENT SECTION SO EVERYONE CAN SEE WHAT WE NEED. Please post if you can bring an extra folding table as they may come in handy, plus some PORTABLE GRILLS if you are bringing something that needs heating (NO GAS GRILLS)!
PARKING IS FREE ON WEDNESDAYS AND SCHOOL IS STILL ON SO I AM HOPING WE WILL HAVE LESS TROUBLE WITH PARKING THAN WE HAVE HAD IN PREVIOUS YEARS ON WEEKENDS. IF YOU ARE STILL WORKING weekdays I HOPE YOU CAN COME JOIN US FOR THE PICNIC OR TAKE THE DAY OFF TO CELEBRATE THIS SPECIAL YEARLY EVENT.
Fully Vaccinated and Boosted Members and guests only and or proof of a negative test the day before.(subject to change)
CARPOOLING could be helpful. Good supportive walking or hiking shoes/ boots are recommended, as the paved areas can be hard on the feet. For those going on the longer walk, walking poles for the steps and street incline, might come in handy. The trail to the steps can be grassy so pants tucked into socks is the best tick prevention along with bug spray around the ankles.
Bring WATER(WHICH IS MANDATORY to attend), snacks, bugspray, sun protection, kites(for after the hike), frisbees, bubbles, etc. and coolers, ice packs, etc. with something to share for the picnic after.
PLEASE POST WHAT YOU PLAN TO BRING so we don't end up with just potato salad for dinner! lol ALCOHOL is NOT permitted and please No Double Dipping. :0) We still need to be careful when handling food we are sharing as there are some things best not shared. REMEMBER to bring serving utensils for your dishes and to take or give away any leftovers.
CLICK ON highlighted "SEE MORE COMMENTS" at bottom of comment section to see what everyone is bringing. CLICK ON "READ MORE" in event to see full details.
SCROLL DOWN TO SEE WHAT EVERYONE IS BRINGING TO SEE WHAT IS NEEDED. There are picnic tables but you are also welcome to bring your own chairs if you like and we could use some small tv/ card tables for more serving space and a large extra folding table might come in handy too. Lets' celebrate the renewal off life and our 14th year together!
Always check the day of an event for any changes. Inclement weather cancels. PLEASE SCROLL TO THE BOTTOM FOR MORE DETAILS.
AS WITH ALL OF OUR EVENTS YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR YOUR OWN SAFETY AND WE CANNOT BE HELD LIABLE FOR ANY INJURIES YOU MAY SUSTAIN.
LEAVE YOURSELF PLENTY OF TIME TO GET HERE AS THE TRAFFIC COMING INTO THE PARK CAN GET BACKED UP! Hopefully as it is a weekday and before school lets out it won't be too bad.
DIRECTIONS: The ONLY entrance that is open to the Ross Dock is the Edgewater entrance and it is expected to remain that way for some time but stay tuned for possible update or call Palisades NJ Parks for update.
Take the Henry Hudson Drive from the park’s southern, Edgewater entrance, at the Edgewater–Fort Lee border off of (River Road/Hudson Terrace). See photo.
From eastbound Routes 4 & 46 and northbound I-95: Take the exit for Fort Lee (Exit 72 for I-95 local, Exit 73 for I-95 express). Continue straight (east) on Bruce Reynolds Boulevard through several traffic lights (essentially, this is the service road for the highways approaching the George Washington Bridge). Turn right at the last traffic light (before the entrance to Fort Lee Historic Park) to go south on Hudson Terrace. Edgewater park entrance will be on your left (east). Take Henry Hudson Drive about 1 mi. north to the circle at the Ross Dock entrance road. Bear right from the circle and down to the entrance to Ross Dock Picnic Area.
