Autumn Walk at W. Haverstraws' Scenic Parks Along the Hudson

Come enjoy the crisp autumn air with a slow/ moderate paced easy walk at a few of W. Haverstraws' most scenic parks by the Hudson River. Keep your eyes to the skies for possible eagle and migratory bird sightings.

This will be about a 2 hour walk, approx 4 miles on mainly level paved paths with breaks to take in all the sites. We will walk along the Hudson to Bowline Point Park and back. (Access to Bowline Point Park is never definite). All you need are supportive walking/hiking shoes/boots or sneakers.

Shorter and longer walk options, I am not planning on walking to Haverstraw Bay County Park, but some of us can drive over after to visit the beautiful piers and 9-11 memorials if there is interest.

Bring WATER which is (MANDATORY), snacks, sun protection, cameras for you shutterbugs and binoculars in search of the Bald Eagles and other migratory birds! Dress in layers.

Restrooms should be available at Bowline Point Park, by Pecks Pond and near the Hav. Village Center.

Optional dinner at the Patriots Lounge, Lynches on the Green or Gilligans, depending upon interest and availability.

DIRECTIONS TO PARKING LOT: From Route 9W North/South: At the intersection of Route 9W and Railroad Avenue, turn east onto Railroad Avenue. Proceed .2 miles to the stop sign. Make a right onto Samsondale Avenue. Proceed .5 miles. The West Haverstraw Village Hall is located on the left side of Samsondale Avenue at intersection with Bowline Plant Rd.. Turn left onto Bowline Plant Road. Pass Village Hall on your left and park in big parking lot on your left in front of ballpark and by basketball courts.

From the Palisades Interstate Parkway Northbound: Exit at #13 Haverstraw/Suffern. Turn left onto Thiells/Mt. Ivy Road. Proceed 1.8 miles. At light, make a right onto Suffern Lane/Railroad Avenue. Proceed 2.1 miles to the stop sign. Make a right onto Samsondale Avenue. Proceed .5 miles. The West Haverstraw Village Hall is located on the left side of Samsondale Avenue at intersection w/ Bowline Plant Rd.. Turn left onto Bowline Plant Road. Pass Village Hall on your left and park in big parking lot on your left in front of ballpark and by basketball courts.

From the Palisades Interstate Parkway Southbound: Exit at #14 Willow Grove Road/Letchworth Village. Make a left onto Willow Grove Rd/Filor’s Lane. Proceed 2.6 miles to light at the intersection of Route 9W. Make a right onto Route 9W South. Travel .5 miles to light. Make a left onto Railroad Avenue. Proceed 2.1 miles to the stop sign. Make a right onto Samsondale Avenue. Proceed .5 miles. The West Haverstraw Village Hall is located on the left side of Samsondale Ave. at intersection with Bowline Plant Rd.. Turn left onto Bowline Plant Road. Pass Village Hall on your left and park in big parking lot on your left in front of ballpark and by basketball courts.
