Drive up for some Sunset Zen, Walk and tribute at Perkins Memorial Tower

Details
Come enjoy a stunning sunset sitting on top of the world at Perkins Memorial Tower! This is a tribute to our dear Jasmin who so loved this place.
Forty foot stone tower erected 1933-1934.
Named for George Walbridge Perkins (1862-1920) the founder and first Chairman of the Palisades Interstate Park Commision. The tower served as a fire lookout cum weather station until the 1950s. Now open to the public.
Bear Mountain State Park.
Great 360 degree view from up there. On a good day you can see Manhatten. Generally open every day til 4pm but best to call ahead of time if you go as it is often closed due to renovations, etc. .
Bring a sandwich, small table, snacks to share, water, sun protection, bug spray and layers for the evening air.
Some of us may go for a short walk to some more scenic viewpoints, which would involve some moderate paved inclines. Hiking boots recommended for the rocky areas and gravel, dirt trails.
Bring a chair if you like . There are plenty of benches(including the one some of us donated a few years ago) throughout the area and rock ledge to sit upon, while we take in the amazing panoramic views.
Bring the day to an end with some zen!!
Carpooling suggested as parking is limited.
FOR DIRECTIONS: You may want to use Highland Falls or Bear Mt. as the town. You can see the tower on the google map.
Going North on the Palisades Pkwy. take Exit 19 to Seven Lakes Drive and Perkins Memorial Drive.
Go approx. 1 mile and take a sharp, hairpin left turn across from the park sign on the right side of the road.
Take the road all the way to the top where the tower is and park.
Port o johns available.
