Sunday Autumn Walk at the Saddle River Cnty. Park Wild Duck Pond

Details

Come on out for a peaceful walk at one of Bergen County's best parks for biking and walking. Let's look for early signs of Autumn color.

This will be about a 2 1/2 hour walk covering approx. 5-6 miles at a slow/moderate pace on a paved level path that follows along the Saddle River where we were once lucky enough to spot a red fox! There is plenty of wildlife around if you take the time to look and listen. We will be taking a few breaks.

We will first pass by the dog runs and then pick up the trail nearer the exit to the park, meet at the bridge and turn left at the "T" to see the waterfall in the bend, stop at next bridge for photo opt, then turn back to circle the pond at the Glenrock section of the park and then retrace our steps back to the parking lot. The swings await for the big kids in the group if interested. Option for shorter walk or to mix it up with the dirt trail off the parking lot which runs along the Saddle River.

MEET AT THE BENCH BY THE FLAG POLE IN FRONT OF THE CAMP SUNSHINE SNOWFLAKE BLDG. by the pond when you first pull in.

Restrooms are available.

Hiking boots, shoes or sneakers will do.

Bring WATER which is MANDATORY, sun protection, Bug Spray, snacks, binoculars for birding and cameras of course for you shutterbugs!

These paths are shared with cyclists, dog walkers, etc. so remember to always STAY TO THE RIGHT of the path to allow everyone to pass safely.

Optional Dinner at the River Edge Diner.

DIRECTIONS: FROM ROCKLAND TAKE 17 SOUTH AND TAKE THE PARAMUS RD EXIT AND HEAD TOWARD RIDGEWOOD. TURN RT ON E. RIDGEWOOD AVE AND THE PARK ENTRANCE WILL BE ON YOUR RIGHT IN A SHORT DISTANCE.

Inclement weather cancels. ALWAYS check the day of an event for possible changes.
