Kennedy Dells easy, Short Spring Hike
Details
Let's see whats’ "coming up" for spring at the scenic Kennedy Dells County Park!
Maybe the Spring Peepers will serenade us!
This will be about a 1 1/2 hour slow/moderate paced hike on woods trails, mostly level with some gentle ups and downs, with a break included.
There may be a few wet spots due to the previous day's rain so weather resistant or water proof hiking boots are recommended along with bug spray and sun protection. Please bring water.
Partially shaded woods trails and bridle paths will take us by open meadows and along a peaceful stream. The remains of the Crum Creek bridge that led to the teahouse is a good place to take a break and get some great photos! If we're extra lucky, we may see some white tailed deer, red fox, rabbits, pileated woodpeckers and other wildlife such as “equestrians" that have been recorded in this park!
Kennedy Dells was owned in the early part of the century by the well known, movie producer Adolph Zukor. New City was at one time to be the Hollywood of the east. About 40 acres of the Park was farmed by George Smith and Sons until 2000. The fields are now maintained as meadows. 80 acres purchased 1969; 97 acres added 1975. A beautifully lined pine forest was also donated and for the "Ansel Adams' in the group, another great photo opt! If there is time and interest we can visit the dog run to see some of our four legged friends.
Let's share another local treasure!
