Hop on over for some beautiful L.I. Sound views, possible Osprey nest, a Bamboo forest, a Daffodil fiesta, optional shorewalk and board-walk.

Playland will not open until mid May so now is the time to go! PARKING IS FREE.

This will be an easy/ moderate approx. 2-3 hour walk/hike about 4- 5 1/2 miles at the scenic Edith Read nature sanctuary along the LI Sound and hidden at the far end of the parking lot at Rye Playland!

The walk/hike will be at a slow/ moderate pace with several short stops to enjoy the views. We will be walking on a mostly flat paved road, woods trails with some VERY rooty areas, possibly some wet spots, grassy areas, beach walk w/ some ROCKY areas (option to take the paved road) & the boardwalk. Early out options.

WEATHER RESISTANT or WATERPROOF walking or hiking shoes or boots are recommended depending upon previous days' weather.

Bring WATER(mandatory) and sun protection, Bug spray, snacks, binoculars and cameras of course . DRESS IN LAYERS.

MEETUP IN THE PARKING LOT AT THE FAR END BY THE DRAGON ROLLER COASTER AND NEAR THE LAKE.

Optional dinner at the Barley Beach house if there is interest and availability. Bring cash and credit cards as last year we stopped for dinner before returning to our cars.

DIRECTIONS: New York Bronx: Take the Bronx River Parkway North to the Cross County Parkway East to the Hutchinson River Parkway North to Mamaroneck Avenue Exit 23 S. Stay on this for one mile and take I-95 North to Playland Parkway, Exit 19.

Brooklyn: Take the Triborough Bridge North to the Cross Bronx Expressway East to I-95 North to Playland Parkway, Exit 19.

Queens: Take the Cross Island Parkway North to the Throgs Neck Bridge to I-95 North to Playland Parkway, Exit 19.

Manhattan: Take the Westside Highway North to the Cross Bronx Expressway East to I-95 North to Playland Parkway, Exit 19.

New Jersey Take the George Washington Bridge to the Cross Bronx Expressway East to I-95 North to Playland Parkway, Exit 19 - or - Take the Tappan Zee Bridge East to the Cross Westchester Expressway (287 East) to I-95 South to Playland Parkway, Exit 19.

Connecticut Take I-95 South to Playland Parkway, Exit 19. or Take the Merritt Parkway to the Cross Westchester Expressway (287 East) to I-95 South to Playland Parkway, Exit 19.
