Easy Jones Pt. Path to the Turning Pt. Church & Iona Island Walk
Details
Come enjoy this mostly shaded bike and pedestrian path that overlooks the Creek, Marshlands, Iona Island and the Hudson River, along with the Bear Mt. Bridge in the distance. We'll take a break by the Turning pt. Church before heading back for a total of approx. 4-5 miles at a slow/ moderate pace. There may be a few short breaks in-between for some photo opts. along the way. We'll return to our initial meeting spot by the Iona Island access road for a short 1 mile walk to Iona island thru the marshlands for some breathtaking views. For some interesting history about Iona Island go to: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iona_Island_(New_York)
Optional dining after at the reputable Stony Point Pancake Factory/House, that has something for everyone depending upon availability and interest. Check them out at: https://stonypointpancakefactory.com
For eating out, PLEASE BRING CASH AND CHANGE TO MAKE CHECK OUT QUICKER AND EASIER FOR EVERYONE. LETS' BE GENEROUS WITH TIPPING TOO AS THESE ARE TOUGH TIMES FOR ALL BUSINESSES AND we want to be remembered in a positive light as we shall return! :0)
The trail is paved with some gentle ups and downs so all you need are supportive walking or hiking shoes, boots or sneakers. The pavement can be hard on the feet though so use what works for you. Bring sun protection, BugSpray, Binoculars as it is a good birding place, Mandatory Water and snacks.
This path is not heavily used but it is still advised to keep to the right to allow cyclists and everyone to enjoy the path safely.
Carpooling is strongly suggested. There is additional parking if needed at the overflow lot for the Ft.Montgomery Historic site. The Ft.Montgomery site is located at 690 Rt. 9W in Ft. Montgomery and the overflow lot is just west of it. You would need to carpool over to the meeting site by the Iona Island access road which intersects with 9W.
Inclement weather cancels. ALWAYS check the day of an event for possible updates.
