Whitewater Rafting THIS SUNDAY!
Details
We couldn't predict these water levels ahead of time, but due to the heavy rainfall, we'll have extremely fun, high water levels in the Shenandoah River! It's a rare opportunity to have these levels combined with early fall warm water, making it the best time for a Whitewater Rafting event! This trip is not for the faint of heart and will definitely be a wild ride! The water will be at least double normal flow!
This Sunday, we will embark on a 6.5 mile journey together in the Blue Ridge Mountains, starting on the Shenandoah River and ending on the Potomac River. Both rivers are a sight to behold. This lovely and lively stretch of water is home to a great variety of bird species (including huge bald eagles) and runs through Harpers Ferry National Historical Park. The rivers' rich history can be viewed right along side the many unique river features, all creating what the wildlife calls home. (My personal favorite thing on the river, aside from being splashed silly, is watching the birds have fun surfing in whitewater. The geese in particular are absolute pros!)
We will be rafting with River and Trail. This outfitter was chosen in part because they have contributed a substantial amount of supplies to relief efforts in North Carolina, and because a portion of their proceeds supports Potomac River Keeper Network, an organization working hard to create a cattle-free Shenandoah.
This is a two-part Meetup.
We will meet at 12:00 at River and Trail outfitters. Please note that the normal check-in time is 12:30, but we have the option to arrive early for a little meet and greet in their pavilion. Feel free to bring some snacks and/or fruit to share. We will then check in at 12:30 and follow their standard procedures.
After the rafting, we will head to Kelley Farm Kitchen, a great vegan restaurant in the quaint town of Harpers Ferry. You can view the menu here: https://kelleyfarmkitchen.com/menu
We will each order from their normal menu and each attendee will pay the restaurant directly, based on what is ordered.
Depending on interest, and the time that we finish, there may be an opportunity for a sunset hike after the restaurant.
