Denver-to-Aspen interest list
Details
People who have been riding in the area for a long time often associate RMCC with the "Denver-to-Aspen" ride, as this was a ride we ran from the formation of the club in 1993. We last ran this ride in 2023 and are considering running it again this year. However, we are trying to get an indication of what the interest level would be.
The dates we are targeting to run this is Saturday, July 25th. If you think you would have an interest, please RSVP and/or e-mail Mark at markrmcc@comcast.net and we can add you to the group e-mail discussion about it. Based on the level of interest, we will make a decision by mid-February whether to move forward with the event.
Some details about the ride:
-Distance: approx. 180 miles, a point-to-point route from Denver, CO to Woody Creek, CO
-Climbing: approx. 16,000 feet, including 3 crossings of the Continental Divide at Loveland Pass, Fremont Pass, and Independence Pass
-Time limit: 16.5 hours
-Support: Our intention is to provide limited support on this ride. There would be a cost-recovery fee to reimburse our volunteers for mileage and supplies.
-RMCC dues-paying membership is also required.
-Some ultra-distance experience is strongly encouraged (but not required) to participate in this event.
-RMCC does not provide transportation back from Aspen. You would need to make arrangements to get you and your bike back home from Aspen.
-We will not be “sweeping the course”. You do need to have someone to call to get back to Denver if you are not able to complete the route.
-Lights and reflective gear are required due to the 4AM start!
