YouthMaker

YouthMaker is program for bringing makers and hackers of all ages together.

Who are makers? Who are hackers? They're people who enjoy the challenge of making things. They can be physical things (robots) or digital things (web pages). They can be beautiful things that are nice to look at, or practical things you need in your daily life.

Toy Example:

Create your own cool toy instead of buying a cheap plastic toy at the store. Fix the toy that you broke, rather than buying a new one. Modify an existing toy to do something it wasn't originally intended to do. Perhaps the toy really want doesn't exist at all, so you want to create it from scratch. Maybe the toy you really want costs more than you can afford, so you're going to try and build something similar with the free and/or low cost materials. While hacking on a toy, you get the inspiration for a totally different-but-genius idea. You build it, patent it, and become a billionaire. Just kidding :) But you never know.

We encourage participants to bring their own projects, ideas, materials, and equipment to the program. However, we will always try to provide at least one structured activity if you don't have a project or just want to connect with other other participants. Veteran makers and hackers will attend to help inspire, share knowledge, and provide support to your projects.

YouthMaker will gear you up for a secret big event we are planning for later in the year. There will be opportunities for participants to show off their project to the public, win awards, and join new project teams.

Here is a sample of projects we've heard our members discussing for this program:

creating stuff on the web (bring your laptop and/or tablets) toy hacking with Arduino controllers Lego builds electronics kit activities take it apart build robots mini-film projects Youth Project Managers (where the kid directs a team of adults?)

This program is free and open to the public. Donations to the Rogue Hack Lab (https://roguehacklab.com/) from non-members are encouraged to help replenish materials and keep the lights on, but nobody will be turned away for lack of funds.
